What is a Neurologist ?
A neurologist
is a physician with special training in diagnosing and managing diseases
of the brain, spinal cord, nerve tissue and muscles. A few of the most
common problems that a neurologist treats are stroke, epilepsy, headache,
multiple sclerosis, Parkinsonism, nerve pain, and dizziness. Neuralgic
consultation involves history taking and a specialized physical examination
which includes tests of vision, coordination, strength, reflexes, and
sensation. Other tests may be needed in evaluation such as electromyography
(EMG), electroencephalography (EEG), evoked potential testing, scanning
or blood tests. Health problems other than those related to your neurological
symptoms will remain under the care of your personal physician.
